Abstract

After the Islamic revolution, Iran has acted as an active actor in the Middle East region by supporting the axis of resistance. This article examines the Iran’s historical and strategic ties to the West Asian region. In recent years, the Islamic Republic of Iran by supporting the axis of resistance has taken a multifaceted, diverse and pragmatic orientation in the West Asian region. While Iran’s strategy has, for the time being, strengthened its influence in the west Asia, this paper observes that it has simultaneously resulted in the creation of anti-Iran regional alliance that could ultimately undermine its regional position. The question is, what has strengthened Iran's influence and the axis of resistance in the West Asian region? The authors argue that Iran, using historical ties and arousing national anti-imperialist sentiments among the nations of the region and shaping common security goals and linking them to the stability and survival of political systems, has been able to develop its regional influence strategy.
