The collapse of Israel's validness: the rationale for action in the Minefield

Abstract

Following nearly eight decades of contention, the Palestinian-Israeli conflict has undergone a distinct transformation. This shift can be observed in the wake of the Hamas operation against Israel, which took place on 7 October 2023. The Hamas operation, called as Al-Aqsa Storm, was an unprecedented defeat for Israel since its establishment, according to many world analysts. Indeed, the most significant outcome of this operation can be regarded as the destruction of Israel's reputation as a powerful actor. Therefore, the objective of this study is to address the following question: How has the October 7 operation shaped Israel's risk-taking strategic and security thinking beyond the red lines? Descriptive-analytical research method is based on library and document data. The research hypothesis is that the The failure of Israel's military and intelligence apparatus as a result of the October 7 operation has prompted the regime to undertake dangerous and aggressive actions in an effort to revive its previously invincible image. The findings indicate that the objective of Israel's actions, even if it entails the risk of regional conflict, is to restore its self-concept as an invincible and powerful actor.
