Abstract

Background and Objective: The common cultural, linguistic, economic, religious, and security fields between Iran and Iraq can significantly influence the creation of various opportunities. However, alongside the established capacities and opportunities, there are also various threats in this area. This research was conducted with the aim of identifying the opportunities and threats of border interactions between Iran and Iraq.
Methodology: This study is applied in terms of purpose and qualitative in terms of method and nature of data. It utilized in-depth interviews for data collection, and data analysis was performed using thematic analysis.
Findings: The findings indicate that the opportunities and threats of border interactions between Iran and Iraq comprise 87 basic themes, 15 organizing themes, and include four overarching themes: political, economic, cultural-social, and security dimensions.
Conclusion: Border interactions between Iran and Iraq require a "comprehensive strategy" in which opportunities are maximized and threats are minimized. This strategy should be based on common interests, mutual respect, constructive cooperation, and a long-term approach. Only in this way can the hidden capacities within these interactions be fully utilized and contribute to enhancing security, stability, and welfare in both countries.
