Abstract

The emergence of new technologies in the field of persuasion and shaping the human mind, including cognitive warfare technologies, biochemical cognitive technologies, artificial intelligence technologies, and the development of brainwashing methods and techniques to the extent that it becomes possible to hack the human mind, and on the one hand, the use of these technologies in the operational field. Military organizations, including the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), have made it necessary to pay more attention to modern weapons in different countries. In the framework of new military operations tools, NATO has added cognitive weapons as a new field to the previous air, sea, ground, space and virtual fields and has defined the human mind as a new field for military campaign. In this regard, the present study investigates the application of cognitive warfare in NATO's operational field. In fact, this article seeks to answer the question, what is the use of cognitive warfare in NATO's operational field? The hypothesis of the research is that although NATO has introduced its actions in the field of cognitive warfare as "defense" against "enemies", on the other hand, the development of cognitive warfare techniques by this organization is considered to maintain "tactical advantage". The current research was carried out with a descriptive and analytical method, and information was collected in the form of library and document studies, including books, specialized articles, and the Internet.
